About This Blog

I work for a couple years as a recreational therapist and was always looking for new and creative ideas to do with my patients. Finally I decided I needed a place to put everything so it was easy to find and navigate...and decided to create my own blog!

I later moved on to graduate school and will begin working as a school psychologist in August. One thing I've realized is that these ideas and activities are exclusive to rec therapists--they can be used by anyone! Parents, teachers, babysitters, occupational therapists, child life specialists--the list goes on and on!

My goal is that this blog can be a collaboration between professionals everywhere to share ideas and recognize the positive impact of fun leisure activities in a variety of settings!

To submit an idea, please email andrea.ctrs@gmail.com with the activity name in the subject line. Include all pertinent information, including where you found the idea and giving credit where credit is due.  Pictures are always welcome!  I will work on getting the activity posted as soon as possible. :)

I am always looking for ways to improve this blog, so if you have any comments and suggestions, please let me know!  Iwant this blog to be useful to you, so please tell me what I can do to help!!

  1. I love this blog!!! I will be doing a 15 week internship starting Monday in and adolescent and adult psychiatric unit. I am very excited and I plan on using some of the activities on this site. Thanks for putting this site together. Recreational therapy is so overlooked. I am hoping to do a great job at the hospital and do my job in advocating for therapeutic recreation.

  2. This blog has given me many ideas! What I would like to see in the upcoming months are more holiday oriented activties. Thank you for creating this blog! It's great to get some fresh ideas and even if I can't use them for my unit, I can tweek them so I can do something of the sort! Some days it is difficult to be creative!

  3. Thank you so much for the ideas!

  4. I highly, highly, highly recommend the website, www.activityconnection.com It is filled with excellent activities for each month, holidays, crafts, music, just tons of stuff. It is my best...and favorite tool!

  5. Do you have a Facebook page or link to your Pinterest ideas for recreational therapy?
